If you missed class this week, you may not know that I am taking roll through the end of the semester, and will base all of the remaining unassigned participation points on in-class attendance. It is THAT important now.
There can be no more absences, zoning out, or flaking out in this class: NEXT WEEK (Week 9) in class you will work on topics and discuss skill-sets and potential collaborative contributions within your cohort, and you will make decisions about teaming up. You will AT THAT TIME choose your team. If you are going to be absent from class next week, you will miss this opportunity, and you will have to play catch-up by convincing a team to allow you to participate with them.
Your team’s project development is going to follow a VERY rigid schedule over the first two weeks. You will select teams, topics and approaches IN CLASS on M, 10/20 or W, 10/22, and your team will have ONE DAY to complete the team contract (which can be amended later, but must be complete by the next day). You will have ONE WEEK from them to complete your basic research and report on it with an ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY due one day after class in Week 10. Then you will have the rest of Week 10 and all of Week 11 to plan the video production, and at the end of Week 11, you’ll turn in your Storyboard & Script. In class Week 12, your team will present the completed plan to the full class. Then you have until the end of Week 13 to get the production DONE: The completed video is due the night before your Week 14 class. That is Thanksgiving Week. Our Timeline calendar shows presentations that week, but if we are on task we will do them ALL the following week and MIGHT be able to cancel class the week of Thanksgiving, with an online component taking the place of the f2f class period.
Note that there is one more individual Major Assignment that you’ll be doing as this project winds down: the Online Opinion Piece. It is an exercise in writing to persuade, and doing so succinctly and efficiently. It will be due at the end of finals week.
Also due at finals is your Team [or Self-] Evaluation on the Video Documentary Project. Each team member will “grade” herself and the other team members. This means that out of the 200 points for the project, if you didn’t contribute to, for example, the annotated bibliography, your teammates can designate that you get ZERO of the 25 points allotted to that segment. If you miss some deadlines on team work, and others have to do the work for you, they can dock points. Of course, I will make the final point assignment, but will follow these recommendations unless there’s some indication not to.
If you are not going to participate in the remainder of this class, drop date is October 31 (Trick or Treat!) and your classmates will greatly appreciate it if you go ahead and drop, or at least notify me, so that we will not be anticipating your placement in a team.
Please contact me if you are confused about this, have missed a lot of recent classes and need a map to catch up, or have other questions. We all need to be on board for this project.
